My childhood friend (JT) found a KODAK picture of my MOTHER as she was looking through other pictures of her Mom’s. She texted me the picture and I commissioned JOSEPH for her portrait. Prior to this I fell in love with his BLACK AND BLUE SERIES. Joseph not only exceeded my expectations but brought my MOM to life on canvas. I’ve always loved Joseph’s paintings and his wonderful sensitivity to textures, color, and form, as well as his superb ability to fuse them all into one beautiful imaginative idea. But what I didn’t know was that, when I asked him to paint my beloved cat Django who had passed away, Joseph could also create an actual Icon for me: he created a portrait which allows me to feel and be in Django’s cherished presence every time I stand in front of it. Our “Boys Of Summer” painting by Josef Berliner is a personal favorite of mine, out of all the artwork presently hanging in our coastal Georgia home. Although we have other beautiful paintings, some coastal landscapes, we commissioned him to create for us. Josef crafted this particular piece from a photograph that was taken at one of our Grandson’s first baseball games a few years ago. The older gentleman on the left end of the bench, was an assistant coach that all the boys gravitated towards, and positioned themselves close to, whenever they could. He always made them feel like a valuable part of the team and always accented the positive playing skills they possessed. I am saying this because we believe Josef captured all the feelings and admiration the boys felt for their beloved coach in this painting. More so than the original photograph could ever reveal. But my admiration for Josef’s work isn’t just about the subjects he chooses. His complete understanding of color, shading, hue and even shadowing all combine on the canvas, with the subject, to create a piece of art that makes you “feel” something. And, you are always left wanting more! In short, he is a wonderful artist, whose work we are proud to display in our home.
